Universal Avionics has made several announcements at the 2016 Aircraft Electronics Association’s annual convention in Orlando, Fla.
First, the company announced it is offering a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS)-flight management system (FMS) upgrade incentive program for Learjet 40/45/40XR/45XR and Citation Excel/XLS aircraft operators. Throughout 2016, operators of these aircraft may trade in their non-SBAS (legacy) Universal Avionics FMS for a significant credit toward the purchase of a new, advanced capability SBAS-FMS.
“Our OEM [original equipment manufacturer]-installed FMSs have been featured on Learjet aircraft for more than 30 years and Citation aircraft for over 20 years,” said Robert Clare, Universal Avionics director of sales. “We have substantial experience integrating various avionics systems in these models. The 2016 SBAS-FMS upgrade incentive program not only offers Learjet and Citation operators compatibility with the regional SBAS around the world, but also a path to localizer performance with vertical guidance and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast out,” he added.
Universal Avionics also announced that more training options for its authorized dealers and integrators are now available, with the addition of online familiarization modules to the UniNet online service centre.
Posted modules present short, narrated videos explaining concepts while also providing helpful demonstrations. Of special interest to authorized dealers and integrators is the FMS end user maintenance training module for software control number 604 through 1001.

Developed by qualified and experienced instructors, the module covers everything from the basics of the FMS to operations, maintenance and configuration.
“Whether learning something for the first time, enhancing understanding, or just refreshing one’s memory of a long-forgotten topic, these videos are yet one more service we provide to our customers,” said Paul Carlin, Universal Avionics customer training instructor. “Our intent is to provide customers with the best possible resources to help them fly smart and land safe.”
And finally, Universal Avionics’ field service engineering team is now offering complimentary FMS and UniLink UL-800/801 communications management unit integration and installation training to its authorized dealer and integrator network.
Each course covers installation planning and resources; models and specifications; system interfaces and basic requirements; configuration, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance; basic operations; and technical support. These courses are ideal for avionics technicians, installation designers and engineers. Avionics sales representatives and sales support may also benefit from portions of the training.
“Universal Avionics encourages authorized dealers and integrators to take advantage of these technical training courses designed to help you succeed in your efforts to install, upgrade, or troubleshoot FMS and UniLink products,” said Ric Miller, Universal Avionics manager of technical and field support. “Seats are limited and should be reserved as early as possible. We look forward to seeing you there.”
