Paraglider killed in crash near Armstrong, B.C.; RCMP investigating

The death of a man during a solo powered paragliding crash near Armstrong, B.C., yesterday, is being investigated by the RCMP.

An RCMP spokesperson said that a powered paraglider is a non-registered aircraft, so the investigation would not involve the Transportation Safety Board.

Powered paragliders are in the ultralight category in Transport Canada’s aviation regulations and require a licence to fly. Five hours of flight time is the minimum required for training, and this can be completed solo if the aircraft is only built for one person, with the instructor watching from the ground.
