Col Sid Connor assumed command of 12 Wing Shearwater, N.S., from Col Peter Allan on July 19, 2017, at the Wing. MGen Christian Drouin, Commander 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region, presided over the ceremony.
12 Wing is home to the Maritime Helicopter Community, including 443 Squadron in Pat Bay, B.C. The CH-124 Sea King helicopter is one of the busiest aircraft in the Royal Canadian Air Force. 12 Wing provides “Wings for the Fleet” on the east and west coasts, with support from highly skilled and dedicated maintenance, training and operational squadrons.
12 Wing is undergoing a transition from the CH-124 Sea King to the CH-148 Cyclone. Drawing from a rich history of Sea King-related projects, Helicopter Operational Test and Evaluation Facility (HOTEF) has already fully transitioned to the CH-148 Cyclone. HOTEF maintenance personnel and aircrew conduct the Operational Test and Evaluation required to support introduction of the CH-148 into operational service and to expand the tactical capabilities of Canada’s newest maritime helicopter weapon system.
