On July 9, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum (CWHM) in Hamilton, Ont., held an Air Force Day that saw airframes on display from the First World War to current military RCAF aircraft.
With the cooperation of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), the CWHM held an Air Force day at the museum. The non-flying event provided a relaxed atmosphere where spectators could tour several current military aircraft and talk to their crews.
Two CF-188s from 433 Squadron Bagotville were on hand as well as a CF-188 cockpit display section for people to sit in. A CC-130J Hercules and CC-177 Globemaster III were open for tours. The CC-177 made a grand appearance in the middle of the day with several spirited passes for museum spectators.
As well, 424 Tiger Squadron visited with a CC-130H and CH-146 Griffon.
First World War aircraft were well represented with several replica aircraft in attendance from The Great War Flying Museum (GWFM) and Vimy Flight. The GWFM had its Se5A, Sopwith 1½ Strutter and Nieuport 28 on display, while Vimy Flight had two of their Nieuport XI replicas in attendance.
The CWHM boasts a large fleet of Second World War-era aircraft and many of the airframes such as the Canso, B-25 Mitchell and Lancaster were open for tours. Waterloo Warbirds provided a look into the RCAF’s early jet years with its CT-133 Shooting Star and de Havilland Vampire jets.
The event supports day-to-day operations of the CWHM and proved to be very popular.
