Thanks to the hard work and generous donations from base members $93,315.87 was raised since the campaign began in September.

The annual campaign, which is run by 8 Wing/CFB Trenton volunteers, began on Sept. 6 with the Wing Commander’s Invitational Golf Tournament. The closing ceremony was held at the Earl of Bessborough Social House on Dec. 7.

The GCWCC is a charitable giving option developed exclusively for federal public servants and federal retirees. 8 Wing/CFB Trenton members are proud to take part in the campaign each year which gives back to the community they live and work in every day.

Through the GCWCC, public servants can support United Ways/Centraides, HealthPartners or any other registered Canadian charity of their choosing. United Way, a trusted community partner with a history of making wise investments, manages the campaign on behalf of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

Dec. 7 was a big day at 8 Wing, as it was also the day that “O” Division Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) handed over a load of toys to be delivered to children in northern communities.

“O” Division has participated in the ‘Toys for the North’ charitable drive since 2010 in partnership with the Canadian Toy Association and Thomson Terminals transportation. This initiative has evolved over the years to include a national network of RCMP, law enforcement, corporate and external partners who collectively contribute to the success of delivering new toys to children in Canada’s northern communities.

Pictured for the handover of toys on Dec. 7 at 8 Wing Trenton are (L-R) Lt-Col Dave Alexander, 8 Wing Chief of Staff; Capt Min Kim and Maj Mark Henneberry, 2 Air Movements Squadron; Lt (Navy) Michael Bennett, 8 Wing Visits Officer; CWO Troy Zuorro, 8 Chief Warrant Officer; 8 Wing Honorary Colonel John Smylie; Sean Miller from Thomson Terminals; Col Mark Goulden, 8 Wing Commander; Cpl Stacey Anderson, Constable Bartek Stankusz, Sgt Marc LaPorte of the RCMP;  and Richard Dickins and Bryan Neville from the RCMP Veterans Association.
