Aeryon customer Ventus Geospatial will conduct the inaugural flight of an unmanned air vehicle (UAV) at the Foremost UAS Range located at the Foremost Aerodrome in South Eastern Alberta on Feb. 24, 2017. This flight will be documented as a milestone in Canadian aviation history as Canada moves forward into the “drone age.”
The purpose of the flight is to establish and demonstrate safe operational procedures and protocols for flying small drones less than 25 kilograms beyond visual line-of-sight. This will be the first UAV test flight in non-military airspace approved by TC in Canada. This is the first step in opening the door to BVLOS flights in Canada, in commercial airspace making pipeline, power line, and large area mapping more cost effective and feasible.
The Foremost Aerodrome is located two kilometers west of the Village of Foremost on Alberta Highway 61, at the intersection with Range Road 120.
The flight will begin at 10 a.m. (local time) on Friday, Feb. 24 and should last until about noon.
