Canadian aviation company Alkan Air Ltd. (Alkan Air) is pleased to announce the official opening of its hangar and operations base at Nanaimo Airport.

The company’s newly constructed hangar hosted a celebration on Sept. 16 to mark the occasion, which included approximately 50 members of the local business community, Mayor Bill McKay and the airport’s chair and president.

“The team at Alkan Air was excited to share this important milestone for our company with our clients, our business partners and Nanaimo’s business leaders as we expand our operations into B.C.,” said Alkan Air president Wendy Tayler. “We have been providing aviation services in Canada for 40 years and look forward to offering the same exceptional customized flight solutions for our Vancouver Island based clients.”

“We are delighted to welcome Alkan Air and its wide range of flight services,” shared Mike Hooper, Nanaimo Airport’s president and CEO. “This growth aligns with the airport’s priority to increase business utilization of airport lands and will have a significant positive economic impact on our region.”

The 9,000-square foot hangar is located at 3260 Mustang Road and the company’s Nanaimo operation employs five full-time local residents.

“Alkan Air is committed to going above and beyond to meet our client’s needs and on behalf of our 70 employees from the Yukon to here on the Island, we extend our sincere appreciation to Nanaimo Airport for its warm welcome,” continued Tayler.

Established in 1977 in Whitehorse, Yukon, Alkan Air provides remote site and corporate charters, bulk fuel transport, private and commercial flight training, FBO facilities and air ambulance services.
