The alignment of the Canadian Air Defence Identification Zone (CADIZ) with Canada’s sovereign airspace and its approaches became effective on May 24, 2018, at 9:01 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) through the publication of revised coordinates in aviation publications.
Implementation of the new CADIZ marks the completion of a commitment made by the Government in Strong, Secure, Engaged–Canada’s Defence Policy.
The newly aligned CADIZ covers the entirety of the Canadian Arctic archipelago and will facilitate increased awareness of the air traffic approaching and operating in Canada’s sovereign airspace.
“Canada remains committed to supporting the North American Aerospace Defense Command,” said Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence.
“The alignment of the Canadian Air Defence Identification Zone with our sovereign airspace and its approaches is another expression of our responsibility for the Arctic. It is also a significant milestone in implementing yet another initiative from our Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged.”
