CCAA announces November workshops

The Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace (CCAA) is offering the following workshops at McGill University in November 2017:

·         Quality Systems Auditor (QSA)

·         Corrective Actions Plan (CAP)

·         Company Aviation Safety Officer (CASO)

·         Human Factors (HF)

This “Training and Skills Development” program was developed by the CCAA and consists of four comprehensive workshops, based on a national occupational standard and/or a specific Transport Canada regulatory requirement. Enhanced by practical case studies and interactive workplace scenarios, each workshop provides a comprehensive overview of key aspects of each topic, equipping participants with transferable skills and knowledge for the workforce environment.

Quality Systems Auditor (QSA) – Nov. 13 to 14, 2017

This two-day workshop is designed for aviation operational personnel with little or no auditing experience; experienced personnel who wish to become internal operational auditors; and operational managers who would like to understand the added value that an internal audit can bring to their daily functions.

The workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the steps involved in the audit process:

·         Preparing an audit program;

·         Developing and validating checklists;

·         Understanding risk management as a component of the audit process;

·         Addressing common quality assurance issues;

·         Scheduling and planning audits;

·         Analyzing evidence and applying audit evaluation methods;

·         Preparing audit reports and developing corrective action plans; and

·         Improving audit performance.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have a sound understanding of the auditing process, which is a key part of a Quality Assurance and Safety Management System that enhances operational safety and performance.

Corrective Actions Plan (CAP) – Nov. 15, 2017

This one-day workshop was created in response to the increasing demand driven by inappropriate Corrective Action Plans within the aviation and aerospace industry. Participants will learn to properly assess, analyze and develop corrective action plans.

It is intended for individuals who may be required to respond to findings by developing corrective action plans. Participants will learn to develop meaningful and appropriate corrective action plans.

Concepts covered include:

·         Understanding management system basics as they apply to findings;

·         Understanding the fundamentals of short-term (corrective) action plans;

·         Understanding and applying methods for determining the root causes of a finding; and

·         Developing long-term (preventative) action plans.

Upon the successful completion of this workshop, participants will possess a thorough understanding of how to interpret findings, develop corrective actions, determine root causes and develop preventative actions.

Company Aviation Safety Officer (CASO) – Nov. 16, 2017

This workshop will be beneficial to participants carrying out the responsibilities of safety officers and managers, as it meets the requirements of CARs 705.153, 573.06(8) 302.505. It will also be of interest to operations managers who require the Company Aviation Safety Officer (CASO) course to meet the requirements of CARs 723.07.

This one-day workshop is designed to familiarize the candidate to the various roles, responsibilities and duties of a Company Aviation Safety Officer. The content covered includes:

·         Safety Management Systems;

·         Occupational health and safety;

·         Human factors awareness;

·         How to establish a safety program;

·         How to establish communication and reporting structure;

·         Emergency response plans; and

·         Unscheduled/accident/incident event management.

Participants will benefit from a deeper understanding of the various aspects of safety management systems including how to better develop, manage and assess effective safety management within their operations.

Human Factors (HF) – Nov. 17, 2017

The Human Factors workshop provides participants with an understanding and awareness of the human factors issues that can potentially lead to accidents and incidents, as well as strategies to successfully engage organizations and individuals in regards to quality issues.

Content covered in both the online training course and the in-class workshop includes:

·         Understanding human factors and safety management;

·         Recognizing and managing human factors that may lead to errors using the concept of the “Dirty Dozen”; and

·         Understanding and addressing communication difficulties in the workplace.

Upon completion, participants will have a sound understanding of the relationship between human factors and safety management and receive a certificate of completion.
