Pentney was born in Calgary and grew up in a military family spending time in Germany, Petawawa, Calgary, Toronto and Kingston. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1998 under the ROTP entry plan, and graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 2002.

He earned his pilot wings in 2004 and was posted to 2 Canadian Forces Flight Training School as an instructor pilot. Pentney has held multiple positions at 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters, and the RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre.

He deployed in support of Op Hestia, Canada’s humanitarian relief operation, in response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. He also deployed to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, enabling RCAF Air Operations in South West Asia — most notably RCAF CC177 operations through Kuwait in Support of Op Attention.

Pentney holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in defence studies both from the Royal Canadian Military College. He and his family call Carrying Place, Ont., home and are thrilled to become part of the 429 Family.

“I cannot express how proud and excited I am to be the new commanding officer of 429 Transport Squadron. Our personnel and aircraft provide a globally responsive capability that is unmatched in its ability to enable the Canadian Armed Forces to reach all operational theatres around the world. Thank you LCol Graham for your tireless work leading 429 Squadron over the last three years. I look forward to following the high standard that you have set,” said Pentney.

“I want to thank everyone at 429 Transport Squadron for their dedication and hard work during my three years and commanding officer. Every member of the squadron played a vital role in us accomplishing our missions at home and abroad. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been your commanding officer. I know that LCol Pentney will lead you well into the future as you continue to demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism and commitment to service,” said Graham.
