Cobham’s RT-7000 granted FAA TSOA

Cobham Aerospace Connectivity’s RT-7000 Airborne Tactical Radio has received Technical Standard Order Authorization (TSOA) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  An FAA TSO sets a performance standard for specified materials, parts, and appliances used on civil aircraft, and represents both design and production approval.

Authorizations granted by the FAA for the RT-7000 include TSO 113b, for Airborne Multifunction Display, and TSO 169a, for VHF Communication Radio-ATC, which will permit operators to consolidate their ATC and mission radios, conserving space & weight and reducing pilot workload.

John Payne, Cobham’s vice-president Radio & Audio Systems, said, “We’re proud to have reached this hard-earned milestone with the RT-7000.  An FAA TSO stamp-of-approval will only increase confidence in the system and its ground-breaking capabilities, both in the U.S. and internationally.”

Cobham’s TSO’d RT-7000 radio suite has established a new standard for airborne tactical communications.  As a software-defined radio, it can supply P25, Tetra, and LTE-based technology for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft engaged in law enforcement, commercial and government air medical transport, SAR, military, and border security missions. Its integrated modular architecture platform makes it future-proof and increasingly popular with private companies, governments, agencies, OEMs, and operators around the world.
