The expansion of KF Aerospace is on schedule with the steel framework of its wide-body hangar at YHM. The aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider is on track with the 100,000 square foot expansion that will add wide-body aircraft capability to KF’s Hamilton operation.

The $30 million expansion will bring the base from two to six lines of maintenance and is expected to triple KF's business in the Hamilton marketplace. KF Aerospace Photo

Last week the company started standing the steel frame for the 285-foot (86.87 metres) by 265-ft (80.77 m) hangar with a 70-ft (21.34 m) roof peak. The $30 million expansion will bring the base from two to six lines of maintenance and is expected to triple KF’s business in the Hamilton marketplace, growing the company’s ability to support the country’s fastest growing airport.

Since announcing the project just four months ago, KF has hired 30 new staff in preparation for the new facilities and is still recruiting for nearly 60 additional vacancies. It expects to add a total of 275 jobs over the next four years.

Construction of the wide-body hangar is on track for the scheduled opening in November 2019.
