Government of Canada Press Release | March 3, 2020

Estimated reading time 1 minute, 59 seconds.

Founded in 2008 by a group of engineers and consultants, JCAI Inc.’s innovative technologies are now used by more than 150 airports and major airlines worldwide. JCAI Inc.’s first-in-world comprehensive suite of de-icing technology offers a single point of control that connects airport directional lighting and message boards to guide airplanes safely and efficiently through the de-icing process. The systems provide real-time data to operators and optimize the use of de-icing fluid, reducing waste and runoff, and contributing to greener operations.

JCAI Inc.’s technology is used by some of the busiest airports in the world including Heathrow, Schiphol, Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver and parts of Chicago O’Hare, as well as by airlines, such as United Airlines, American Airlines, Air Canada, WestJet, and British Airways.

Maximizing growth potential

With the goal of more than doubling the number of airports using its proprietary de-icing systems worldwide, JCAI Inc. is expanding its Cambridge, Ont., facility, adopting new automated equipment, and boosting its in-house sales and tech support activities.

On March 3, Bryan May, Member of Parliament for Cambridge, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, announced a FedDev Ontario contribution of $5 million for JCAI Inc. to support its scale up activities.

Global growth, local impact

With Government of Canada support, the company will create 50 new high-quality jobs in the Cambridge area, growing its team from 32 to 82 employees. JCAI Inc. also expects to nearly triple its purchasing from suppliers in southern Ontario, strengthening the local supply chain.

“This commitment from the Government of Canada will leverage JCAI Inc.’s Canadian innovation and technology to an ownership position in advanced aviation technology platforms worldwide,” said Jeff Campbell, founder and president, JCAI Inc.
