Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation has conducted its first off-site test campaign at the Chicago Rockford International Airport in Rockford, Ill., to collect data in natural icing conditions.
With a little help from Mother Nature and the use of dedicated flight test instrumentation, the team of global specialists obtained valuable data in order to analyze the airframe ice accretion and ice protection system performance. This milestone builds on recent testing activities at the Moses Lake Flight Test Center in Washington state.
The next stop for the test aircraft is the McKinley Climatic Laboratory on the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. There, the test aircraft will be exposed to some of the most extreme temperatures it may encounter during commercial operation.
