Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre (WWFC) in Ontario is offering its first annual golf tournament, which will be held at Rebel Creek Golf Club on Sept. 21.

The event is a fundraiser for student pilot scholarships to assist with the financial side of training, since training to be a pilot is very costly and many aviation students are not eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) or other financial support.

“One of the biggest stumbling blocks with training is the cost,” said Bob Connors, general manager of WWFC. “We want to help, so WWFC has established a student pilot scholarship fund to help students achieve their aviation goals.”

The golf tournament is open to men and women in the Region of Waterloo and surrounding areas, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Avid golfers and beginners alike, as well as those who have an interest in the aviation industry, are all welcome. The tournament is not meant to be competitive; it’s a fun day out in support of student pilots.

Sponsors and supporters of the event include: Chartright Air Group, Conestoga College, Emond Harnden LLP, Georgian Bay Airways, Great Lakes Helicopter, iHeart Radio, Jazz, Kitchener Aero, Nacora International Insurance Brokers, Porter, Region of Waterloo International Airport, Sunwing Airlines,  University of Waterloo and World Fuel Services

Events include a 50/50 helicopter ball drop, generously donated by Great Lakes Helicopter, as well as putting contest, hole-in-one and longest drive. A silent auction with more than 35 items will also be featured.

Registration is $160 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and dinner. Tickets are also available for dinner for those who are not interested in golfing, but want to come out to support the cause.

Cost is $50 per person for the dinner, which will also give guests access to participate in the 50/50 ball drop and silent auction. Registration will close Sept. 10. Click here for more details and to register.
