“Canadians have been paying far too much to fly to Europe for far too long and today, as we have throughout our history, we’re going to fix that,” said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice President, Commercial. “We are offering non-stop flights at very low prices and we’re proud to once again lower airfares and make travel more affordable.”
This comment was repeated at a press conference today in Calgary, where president and CEO Gregg Saretsky added, “Our fares from Calgary to London Gatwick will be $299 including all taxes, Toronto will be $294. In addition to the new low fares from the major cities, WestJet customers flying from small locations can take advantage of the low fares for less than $20 more.”
If you booked today, leaving on May 24, 2016, the one-way fare from Regina to Toronto is $258. The fare from Regina to London Gatwick Airport is $265.
Effective May 6, 2016, WestJet will begin its summer schedule from six Canadian cities to Gatwick Airport.

The Boeing 767-300ERW schedule will operate from Calgary (five times weekly), Toronto (once daily), Vancouver (six times weekly), Edmonton (twice weekly), Winnipeg (once weekly) and utilizing a 737-700, St. John’s (once daily).
In an earlier Skies interview, Saretsky maintained Gatwick Airport will be the only WestJet B767 European destination in the foreseeable future as it has ideal connections to many continental destinations using low-cost carrier Easy Jet.
The smaller size of Gatwick and its proximity to London and continental Europe by both air and ground transportation will appeal to cost-conscious and vacation travellers who are looking for a less complex airport experience than Heathrow, one of the world’s largest and busiest airports.
