Runners, walkers and volunteers are being invited to take part in the 3rd Annual Hearth Place 5K on the Runway at Oshawa Municipal Airport on Sep. 23, 2012. The event, which raises funds for the Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, will see all air traffic at the airport cease from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. while the runners, walkers and their supporters participate in the 5K run – or the more leisurely 1K course.

“We are still looking for volunteers and more importantly run participants,” said spokesperson Eric Dumigan. “We now have Mazda Canada and TM3 club as sponsors and as part of their sponsorship they will be putting over 300 Mazda 3 cars on the runway and spelling “zoom zoom.” It’s a very exciting addition to the event.”

The organizers also thanked the City of Oshawa for its sponsorship, allowing participants, ranging from serious runners and recreational walkers, to families and school children, to use the runways at the airport for the event.
