Resulting from the recent ruling by the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) that defines the role of a “reseller” in airline regulation, FlySarvaq announced it will be changing its name to GoSarvaq.
This change comes as a result of the new regulatory clarity resulting from the CTA’s recent announcement and allows GoSarvaq to begin the final steps to providing travel services at affordable prices between Iqaluit and Ottawa and Halifax.
“While it has been frustrating to take things slower while waiting for this recent regulatory ruling, we are now able to move forward with bringing our affordable travel option for Nunavummiut,” confirmed Adamee Itorcheak, president of Sarvaq Logistics.
“There has been a lot happening since the initial announcement, while waiting for this decision from the CTA.”
The delay in starting up Nunavut’s latest travel service option will mean a few changes from the initial service launch announcement in January 2016.
In addition to the name change, the GoSarvaq routes will be flown by airline service provider, Flair Airlines. Previously, Nolinor Aviation had been announced as the carrier.
“We took an objective look at the project as a whole and we believed, or we felt, that going with Flair may have been a more suitable option for us, in terms of the flexibility and ability to grow,” said Brian Tattuinee, director of network operations for Sarvaq Logistics.
He indicated that Sarvaq is maintaining its partnership with Nolinor to service mining clients in the Baffin region of Nunavut.
“With Flair Airlines we are confident we have the airline partner best suited for our service today and growth in the future,” said Itorcheak. The change in airline partner comes with a new reservations system for ticket bookings and will be online shortly for customers to book travel.
“We really wanted to be in a position to take bookings sooner, but it is important to have the right travel solution for our customers and that we are following all regulatory requirements. We are committed to being a travel service option for a long time, and make all our decisions on what is the best solution for Nunavummiut,” said Itorcheak.
Resulting from the wait to begin online booking, the inaugural date of service is moving from May 6 to May 20. Customers who had expressed interest in flights on the affected dates are being contacted to make flight changes. Any customers who have inquiries are encouraged to contact customer service.
