Kate Young, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Science and Sport and to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility and Member of Parliament for London West, on behalf of the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, has announced a Government of Canada investment to rehabilitate Taxiway B and the apron at the Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport in Sarnia, Ont.
The investment of $583,665 includes placing new asphalt on Taxiway B and a portion of the main apron, and upgrading airfield guidance signs associated with Runway 15-33 and Taxiway B.
Well maintained runways, taxiways and aprons ensure safe usage by aircraft, passengers, and crews, and help protect costly airport safety assets, such as snow clearing equipment and aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles, during airport operations.
“The Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport is an important hub for residents and businesses in this region,” said Young. “This investment will help ensure continued safe and reliable airport operations for Sarnia residents, many of whom depend on their local airports not only for personal travel and business, but also for access to specialized and emergency medical care in larger centres.”

- To date, the Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport has received more than $3.1 million in ACAP funding for 10 safety projects, including the rehabilitation of the taxiway and apron, new snow-clearing equipment and airside electrical upgrades.
